Recent studies have found that heartburn drugs like Aciphex could increase the risk of stomach cancer, acute nephritis (kidney inflammation), chronic kidney disease, and other severe side effects.

Aciphex and Stomach Cancer
In November 2017, a study published in the journal Gut found a doubled (2X) higher risk of stomach cancer for people who were on long-term treatment with heartburn medications in the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class, which includes popular antacids like Aciphex.
Heartburn Drugs May Increase Risk of Death
July 2017 — A new study in the journal BMJ Open has linked the long-term use of heartburn drugs in the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class with up to a 50% increased risk of death compared to H2-blocker heartburn drugs. Click here to read more.

What is Aciphex?
Aciphex (rabeprazole) is an anti-heartburn drug that was approved by the FDA in 1999. It is in the Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) class of medications.
Aciphex and Kidney Disease
In December 2014, the FDA updated the label on Aciphex to include stronger warnings about an allergic reaction in the kidneys known as acute interstitial nephritis. This side effect causes sudden swelling and inflammation in the kidneys.
Studies Linking PPIs and Kidney Injury
Recent studies have also linked the use of PPIs with higher rates of acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. One study published in CMAJ Open by researchers in Canada found a 3-fold increased risk of nephritis and a 2.5-fold increased risk of kidney injury based on data from nearly 300,000 older adults in Ontario.
Another study published by Dr. Morgan Grams of Johns Hopkins University found that PPIs increased the risk of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) by 15-46%, based on data from 10,500 adults with arterial disease. The study was published in JAMA Internal Medicine in February 2016.

- Swelling in the body due to excess fluid
What is the problem?
The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. However, our lawyers are filing individual lawsuits rather than a class action against the manufacturers of Aciphex. We are currently evaluating cases involving side effects, such as:
- Interstitial nephritis
- Kidney failure
- Acute kidney injury
- Kidney inflammation
- Chronic kidney disease
- Stomach cancer
About Class Actions
Class actions are the most popular way for large groups of people to seek reimbursement and refunds after purchasing a defective product. Members consolidate their individual claims into one claim, collectively seek compensation, and share any payout.
Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action
Class actions are designed for efficiency rather than maximizing the payout for individual plaintiffs with the most severe injuries. Members might also have to accept “low-ball” settlements or massive attorneys’ fees.
Instead of a class action, our lawyers file individual lawsuits. We specialize in helping victims of drug side effects file lawsuits. We believe there is no excuse for pharmaceutical companies that fail to warn about side effects. If you were injured by Aciphex, you could be entitled to compensation for your injury, medical expenses, and more.
