December 2, 2013 — Abbott Diabetes Care is recalling 20 lots of FreeStyle Blood Glucose Test Strips because they may produce “erroneously low” blood-sugar readings, which could lead to serious or even life-threatening injuries for people with type-2 diabetes.
The recall was announced on November 27. Incorrect blood-sugar readings may occur after testing with the FreeStyle or Freestyle Flash Blood Glucose Meters (recalled in February 2014 and not in production since 2010) or the OmniPod Insulin Management System. Affected products had expiration dates between May 2014 and May 2015.
