Texas Cucumber Salmonella LawyerSeptember 14, 2015 — Custom Produce Sales of Parlier, California has recalled its “Fat Boy” brand of cucumbers because they may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The cucumbers are known as “slicer” or “American” cucumbers and are typically dark green in color, 7-10 inches long, with a diameter of 1.75-2.5 inches.

They were grown in Baja California, Mexico and distributed in the states of California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Texas. Unlabeled cucumbers that were packed in black, reusable plastic containers and sold in Nevada are also being recalled.

Last week, cucumbers grown in Mexico were recalled by Andrew & Williamson Fresh Produce due to a Salmonella outbreak. Infections sickened hundreds of people and contributed to two deaths, including one woman in Texas. The most recent report from the CDC lists 341 illnesses in 30 states.

Fat Boy cucumbers were packed into the following:

  • Cucumber Carton 24’s Fat Boy Label
  • Cucumber Carton Super Select Fat Boy Label

Salmonella is a bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in children, elderly adults, and people with weakened immune systems. According to the FDA:

“Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.”
