Daiichi Sankyo manufactures Azor, a blood pressure drug that contains olmesartan. Unfortunately, this ingredient has been linked to cases of kidney failure. It has also been linked to an intestinal disease that can lead to kidney problems.

Azor and Kidney Failure – Prescribing Information
Azor has also been linked to increased creatinine levels, which is often one of the first signs of kidney problems. In post-marketing experience, olmesartan was linked to rhabdomyolysis, a musculoskeletal disease that can cause kidney failure.
In July 2013, the FDA warned that olmesartan was clearly linked with 23 cases of sprue-like enteropathy. This severe intestinal disease can cause chronic diarrhea, malnutrition, and dehydration. If the patient is not treated, fluid loss from diarrhea can lead to kidney complications.
Azor can also cause kidney problems when it is used in combination with certain drugs. For example, high-risk patients who use non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as aspirin and ibuprofen, should be monitored because this combination can result in acute kidney failure. Adverse effects are usually reversible.
What is Kidney Failure?
Kidney failure occurs when one or both kidneys fails to adequately remove toxins from the blood and balance levels of salt, nutrients, and water in the bloodstream.
If doctors discover the cause of acute kidney failure before the organ is permanently damaged, complete recovery is possible. However, if treatment is delayed, a patient may need dialysis (mechanical cleaning of their blood) or an organ transplant.
