Wright Medical manufactures the Dynasty Acetabular Cup System, a modular cup that is used in hip replacement surgery. It is designed with the Biofoam™, a bone-like titanium with a roughened texture that “bites” into bone for enhanced fixation. It was approved in October 2009.

Federal judges centralized all lawsuits involving the Wright Conserve, ProFemur, Dynasty, and Lineage hip replacement products into a Multi-District Litigation (MDL) in the Northern District of Georgia, overseen by Judge William S. Duffey.
What is the problem?
Plaintiffs allege that the metal-on-metal hip replacements are defective, and furthermore, Wright failed to warn patients about the potential risks. When a metal femoral head pivots inside a Dynasty Acetabular Cup, the all-metal hip implant can allegedly shed toxic particles into the patient’s body.
The FDA has warned that metal hip implants can cause metallosis (metal toxicity), severe pain and swelling, soft-tissue growth, systemic reactions in other areas of the body, and other serious side effects. When these complications occur, revision surgery is usually recommended.
