What is the problem?

Victoza (liraglutide) is a type-2 diabetes medication in the incretin mimetic class. Other drugs in this class include Byetta, Januvia, and Janumet. They all work by influencing hormones in the pancreas that regulate insulin and blood-sugar levels. Recently, studies have been published linking Victoza to a possible risk of pancreatitis (pancreatic inflammation), which may increase a person’s risk of pancreatic cancer.

Victoza Class Action Lawsuit

Hundreds of people who were injured by diabetes drugs have filed lawsuits, but not as a class action. Instead, they are individual lawsuits that were filed by people with their own lawyer. Most of the lawsuits are centralized in one federal court in California.

Victoza Lawsuits Centralized in MDL

As of June 2016, over 800 lawsuits involving Victoza, Byetta, and Januvia were filed in a Multi-District Litigation (MDL No. 2452) in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California, overseen by Judge Anthony J. Battaglia.

About Class Actions

Class actions are lawsuits in which a large number of people consolidate their individual legal claims into one representational lawsuit. Lawyers representing the class select one member to be the “class representative,” and the outcome of the lawsuit depends on this person’s case.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

Class actions can have disadvantages for people with serious injuries. Members are often forced into a “low-ball settlement” and higher attorneys’ fees. Our trial attorneys file individual lawsuits because we believe this is the best way to help our clients seek compensation and justice from drug-makers.

If you decide to file a lawsuit, you could receive compensation for your economic and non-economic damages, including pain and suffering, emotional anguish, lost income or employment, medical expenses and rehabilitation, wrongful death of a loved one, and more.
