Data from an Australian joint registry has linked the Apex K2 hip implant with a 9.3% three-year failure-rate, and a study has found evidence of corrosion at the femoral neck-stem interface.

Omni Apex K2 Hip Implant

In October 2015, the Journal of Arthroplasty published a study linking the Omni Apex K2 with metal corrosion and fretting at the neck-stem interface.

This complication could potentially release irritating particles of metal into a patient’s hip joint, resulting in inflammation, metallosis, and other problems that require revision surgery.

Some patients developed a painful complication known as aseptic lymphocyte dominated vasculitis-associated lesions (ALVAL), which often involves soft-tissue growths known as “pseudotumors.”

Australia Pulls Approval After Study Finds High Failure Risk

The Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) revoked approval for the Omni Apex K2 in October 2012, after warning that it had been linked to a 9.3% three-year failure rate and a 5.5% one-year failure-rate.

Health officials asked patients to undergo annual examinations and consult their orthopedic surgeon if they experienced any problems. According to a statement from the TGA:

“If you are not sure what type of hip replacement you have, or if you have concerns about your hip replacement, you should seek information from the surgeon who performed the operation or the hospital where the operation was performed.”

What is the problem?

The Clark Firm, LLP is nationally recognized as a class action law firm in Texas. However, we are not pursuing justice for our clients through an Omni Apex K2 class action. Instead, we are filing individual lawsuits so we can seek justice and maximize compensation for each of our clients.

About Class Actions

Class actions are an important litigation tool when thousands of people have a similar legal claim. The lawsuit is typically filed by a “class representative” on behalf of everyone who was injured. If compensation is awarded, the payout is divided among everyone in the lawsuit.

Why Our Law Firm is Filing Individual Lawsuits as Opposed to a Class Action

The disadvantage of a class action is that people with very serious injuries are lumped together with people who have less-serious injuries. They may also have to accept a “low-ball” settlement and higher attorneys’ fees.

Instead of a class action, our attorneys are filing individual lawsuits on behalf of people who were injured by the Omni Apex K2 hip replacement. You may be entitled to compensation for your pain and suffering, medical expenses, and more if your implant failed prematurely or needed revision surgery.
